Coming off of a 12-3 season, the Lady Lakers golf squad played its second match in two days Thursday afternoon. While the Lakers had a good regular season, head coach Jane Eidson said the team hopes to improve on it’s fourth place tie in the District Tournament.
In order to improve in districts, Eidson said that the team has specific goals for all matches.
“In matches (we want) to stay under 200 as a team, in tournaments we want to stay in the upper half, and keep improving our scores,” Eidson said.
Camdenton faced off against California on Wednesday afternoon. Despite accomplishing the goal of staying under 200 as a team, the Lakers fell by four 192-196.
Joni Purvis shot a 41 to earn both team and match medal honors.
Despite the loss, Eidson was pleased with the team’s effort.
“We stayed under 200, so we were pleased to get more match experience and to improve our scores,” Eidson said.
After losing to California, the Lakers returned to the course Thursday for their home opener at Lake Valley.
The Lakers defeated Lebanon and Helias to improve their record to 3-1. Eidson was very happy with the team’s final score of 187. Lebanon finished second with a 190 while Helias finished third with 195.
This was the first time the Lady Lakers had ever defeated Helias.
Laker Cassie Kennedy shot a 46 in the match. This was an improvement over her 54 on Wednesday. She said that she’s been struggling as of late and was happy to have a good performance on Thursday.
“I played pretty good, I wasn’t too good in the the last two matches. It’s all mental, I just think positive,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said that playing for the Lakers over the past two seasons has made her take the game more serious than in the past. Though she’s been playing since fourth grade Kennedy said that she has seen the biggest improvement between this year and last year.
