    • The American Legion Riders hosted a Shine & Show Car & Bike Show July 13 at Post 624 in Sunrise Beach, featuring classic rides and bikes of yesteryear and today. The Fallen Hero's Dream Ride was featured at the event. The specially restored 1951 Chevy pickup was restored in memory of LCpl Phillip Vinnedge of St. Charles, Mo. Vinnedge was a member of Weapons Company of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Darkhorse Regiment. At the age of 19, he was killed in action with three other Marines on Oct. 13, 2010. Phillip's parents, Julie and Dave, show the truck as a way to honor Phillip. Dave and his two elder sons brought the then beat-up old Chevy home two weeks after Phillip was killed to restore it. They have since had it airbrushed with patriotic scenes and symbols and images of Phillip. The Vinnedges have also started an organization called Dream Riders in conjunction with the Fallen Hero's Dream Ride. Dream Riders honor the children and siblings of our fallen members of the military with activities. The events are a way for them all to be with a group that understands what it means to have a loved one in the military and what it's like to lose someone. Julie and Dave were also given the honor of cutting the ribbon on Zack Wheat American Legion's new playground - dedicated to the families of young veterans.
